The Open Air Dairy is home to 800 free range cows. Nestled in the beautiful Dorset countryside our cows live outside all year round, grazing and roaming everyday. To make it even gentler for our cows, we don't even bring them in for milking. We take the milking parlours to them wherever they have wandered.
Open Air Dairy Mature cheddar
Love and care is poured into making our cheese, on every step of the journey. We believe its the quality ingredients made ethically that sets great food apart from the rest.
It's All about family
The Open Air Dairy is a family farm, 365 days a year we work in all weathers to make sure our cows are happy and healthy.
Milking in the field
The Open Air Dairy is pretty unique! Our cows are milked in which ever field they are grazing, they don't even come in for milking. We take the milking parlours to the cows where ever they are. We believe the cows are happier and healthier this way and we believe you can taste this happiness in every bite of our cheddar.
A new vision for farming
The Open Air Dairy was born out of friendship. Tom and Neil met at the University of Plymouth and there began a life long friendship. Together with their families they began The Open Air Dairy with a vision for how dairy farming could be done differently.
The Open Air Dairy is nestled amongst the South Dorset Downs, with wind sweeping in off the sea. It's our unique location and gentle farming methods that makes our cheese taste so great.
